President-elect Obama plans to appoint a Chief Technology Officer in his administration. This "Technology Czar" will coordinate the efforts of all the existing government agency information officers.
Another of Obama's goals is to bring broadband access to all Americans. While the Internet was invented in the United States, the United States now ranks fourteenth among nations in access to broadband. Internet access in France is half as expensive and four times as fast as in the United States. To finance providing universal broadband access, the administration intends to re-purpose the fund which was used to provide phone service to rural areas in order to supply internet service.
The Obama administration wants to make the government more transparent to the public by posting more government documents, including government contracts, online. Hat tip to NPR .
