The Executive Summary of the CIA's OIG Report on CIA Accountability With Respect to the 9/11 Attacks has been redacted, declassified and released. Declassification was mandated by the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007. However, as CIA director Michael V. Hayden makes clear in his statement at the Summary's release, he believes the release was a mistake. Even as redacted, he believes that the Summary will have a "chilling effect" on future work of the Office of the Inspector General.
